People took to the streets in Poland: high prices and protest for democracy

The call made by Tusk in the year 34 of June 4, 1989, when free elections were held for the first time in Poland, received a great response from the public and citizens united for the “biggest political protest in recent years”.

Also joining the march were the current mayor of Warsaw, Rafal Trzaskowski, who lost the election by almost 400,000 votes, and Tusk, who was a rival to current president Andrzej Duda in 2020.

Addressing the audience, Tusk said: “Here I can see an ocean of red and white flags. Tens of thousands of people with Poland in their hearts are here, millions of people are watching TV. Today is the anniversary of the free elections. Let all of Poland, Europe, the world, everyone see how strong we are. Just like many years ago, how many of us are ready to fight again for democracy and freedom in Poland? We will win.” He used the phrase.

Warsaw Mayor Trzaskowski declared that people from all cities in Poland took part in today’s march, saying: “We want a democratic Poland, we want a free Poland, we want a European Poland. I firmly believe that we will achieve victory. There’s a reason we came here on June 4th. We must rebuild this community, the community of free people, the community of brave people, wake up Poland. We will win.” he said.
Marcin, one of the Poles taking part in the march, said: “We don’t want to separate from Europe. We don’t want to be like Belarus” said.
