Fierce clashes erupt in Sudan on last day of ceasefire
In Sudan, the parties clashed with artillery, heavy and light weapons in Umdurman, west of the capital Khartoum, and Bahri to the north.
Due to the violent clashes, some houses were destroyed and residents fled to safer areas.
CRISIS IN SUDAN
The word began with the statement that the army wanted the HDK, which it once supported but considered a threat because it acted as an independent and parallel army, to be fully integrated into the army within 2 years, and that the HDK could accept this in a process of about 10 years after a civilian government, the war and the escalation of tension turned into an armed conflict between the parties on the morning of April 15, in the capital Khartoum and in several cities.
Under President Omar al-Bashir, who was overthrown in a 2019 coup, the HDK, which was formed as a militia structure to fight rebels, protect borders and maintain order in Darfur, has dozens of thousands of members. .
Stating that more than a million people were displaced within the country, the United Nations announced that 300,000 people fled to neighboring countries due to conflict.
The World Health Organization (WHO) reported that 850 people lost their lives and 5,500 were injured due to the ongoing conflict in Sudan.
In Sudan, the parties extended the current ceasefire for a further 5 days on May 29.
The US and Saudi Arabia announced that talks held in the city of Jeddah to stop the fighting between the Sudanese army and the HDK were suspended due to ceasefire violations by both parties.
