Green light for Ukraine’s entry into France’s NATO

Colonna spoke at the entrance to the Informal NATO Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Oslo, Norway.

Explaining that the main topic of the meeting will be the Ukraine-Russia War, Colonna stressed that the countries affiliated with the Alliance must act consistently and responsibly in Ukraine.

Noting that countries must prioritize their security engagements with Ukraine, Minister Colonna said: “I must remind you of a simple principle of international law that all sovereign states have the right to freely choose their allies. We are determined to respect this principle.”

Pointing out that Sweden’s entry into NATO will also be discussed at the meeting, Colonna said that Sweden’s participation in the Alliance, in addition to being an observer, will strengthen the security of Europe, as in the case of Finland.

Catherine Colonna affirmed that the tension in the north of Kosovo was also on the agenda of the meeting and pointed out that the Kosovar and Serbian sides were responsible for the events.

Stating that the parties must “act responsibly” if they wish to join the European Union, Colonna called on the parties to “return to the negotiating table as soon as possible to ensure peace.” (AA)
