Earlier this year, the Russian mercenary leader offered to share Russian troop positions with the Ukrainian government. In return, Yevgeny Prigozhin wanted Kiev to withdraw its troops from Bachmut. The Washington Post reports it based on confidential US government documents leaked earlier this year.

According to two Ukrainian news sources, Prigozhin spoke several times with the Ukrainian intelligence agency HUR. According to one of them, Wagner’s boss made the offer several times, but Kiev rejected it because he didn’t trust Prigozhin and thought the offer might be a trap. According to an anonymous American source, even Washington has questioned Prigozhin’s intentions.
