North Korea could modernize its satellite launch facility in Sohae. This was reported by Bloomberg, based on satellite images held by the intelligence site 38 North.
The images show, among other things, construction in an area along the coast traditionally used for agricultural purposes, according to Washington DC-based 38 North, which documents events in North Korea.
Modernization
It’s not yet clear what exactly is being built, though 38 North thinks it can conclude that the construction is part of an effort to modernize North Korea’s launch facilities. North Korea is believed to have begun rebuilding between April 19 and 30; a week later the first floor seemed to be standing already.
North Korea said last week that it would continue to improve its nuclear capabilities and exercise its right of self-defense if the United States continues to threaten the Korean peninsula.
