Reaction of the President of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, Mustafa Şentop, to the Greek Cypriot representative
The Chairman of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, Mustafa Şentop, in his speech at the 1st session on “Russia’s attack on Ukraine and the enlargement of the EU” at the Summit of the Presidents of the EU Parliament, Anita Dimitriu, who attended the meeting on behalf of the Greek Cypriot Administration, said Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. She reacted to the “same as the occupation of Cyprus” analogy.
Şentop said: “It is unacceptable that the EU is captive to the whims of some countries and their meaningless political and religious conditions.” Şentop said Turkey’s intervention stems from its rights as guarantor under the Zurich and London agreements.
“Maybe not old enough”
Before the Speaker of the Assembly continued with his occupation claim, Şentop spoke again and explained the legal situation on the island with its dates. Referring to the young age of the Şentop representative speaking on behalf of the Greek Cypriot administration, he said: “Maybe his age is not enough.”
The Greek Cypriot representative, who took the floor again to respond to the speech of the president of Parliament Şentop, this time because of the expression ‘age’ in the president’s speech, “He makes gender discrimination. You talk like that because I’m a woman. I reject the sexist approach. Are we going to accept such an approach towards women?
