Magnitude 7 earthquake shakes Indonesia
A magnitude 7 earthquake occurred off the Indonesian island of Java.
The United States Geological Survey (USGS) announced that the epicenter of the magnitude 7 earthquake was located 96.5 kilometers north of the city of Tuban. According to the first determinations, there was no loss of life or property in the earthquake that occurred 594 kilometers underground.
The Indonesian Meteorology, Climate and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) did not issue a “tsunami” warning after the quake.
In the Aceh region of Indonesia, after the 2004 earthquake, approximately 170,000 people lost their lives. On September 28, 2018, the magnitude 7.5 earthquake and tsunami that struck Palu Bay on the island of Sulawesi; It affected the Donggala, Palu and Sigi regions and killed 4,340 people.
In the magnitude 5.6 earthquake that struck on November 21, 2022, 18 kilometers southwest of the city of Ciranjang, in the Indonesian province of West Java, 331 people lost their lives and nearly 600 were injured.
