The ‘listening’ allegation that confused the United Nations…

The UN Secretary General’s spokesman, Stephane Dujarric, responded to the news in leaked documents revealing that the United States had been listening to Guterres’ phone calls at the daily press conference.

Noting that the accuracy of the documents and their content is not known for certain, Dujarric said: “We take the necessary precautions to carry out our communication in the most secure manner possible. Of course, it would not be appropriate for me to say clearly what kind of measures we have taken or will take. There is some legal understanding of the inviolability of UN communications and all member states must respect them.” he used the phrase.

Dujarric said Guterres was consistent in his “private and public” talks and his stance on the Ukraine issue was clear.

Noting that the private conversations were listened to and made public, Dujarric said: “The Secretary General has been doing this for a while. He is a longtime politician and public figure. So he wasn’t surprised that phone calls were tapped.” He said.

Regarding the accusations that the United States accuses Guterres of being “soft and conducive to Russia,” Dujarric said: “The secretary-general does not act soft or compromising to any country. He openly expresses violations of international law and the UN Charter. He says the same in Moscow, kyiv and New York. He (with the Black Sea Grain Corridor Agreement) is trying to lessen the impact of war on the poorest.” he said.

STATEMENTS TO GUTERRES IN LEAKED DOCUMENTS

According to the BBC report, in the leaked Pentagon documents, the US was seen to closely follow UN Secretary-General Guterres and his deputy and listened to their phone calls.

Documenting the telephone conversation between Guterres and his deputy, regarding the Black Sea Grain Corridor Agreement, “Guterres highlighted efforts to improve Russia’s export capacity, even if it includes Russian institutions or individuals that have sanctioned decisions.” and “destroy the general efforts of the Secretary General to hold Moscow accountable for its actions in Ukraine.” statements were included.
