48,000 people commit suicide in the United States in a year
The National Center for Health Statistics, affiliated with the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), released current data on suicide-related deaths from 2001-2021.
According to the data, the mortality rate per 100,000 inhabitants due to suicide in the country, which was 10.7 in 2001, reached 14.2 in 2018.
While suicide-related death rates decreased to 13.5 per hundred thousand in 2018-2020, they rose again to 14.1 in 2021. In the US, there were 48,183 suicide deaths in 2021.
While the deaths of women varied in the period in question, there was an increase in the rate of death by suicide in women over the age of 75 in 2020-2021.
In men, an increase in the rate of death by suicide was observed in the age groups of 15-24, 25-44, 65-74 and over 75 years in the same range of dates.
White and non-Hispanic black women experienced an increase in suicide-related deaths in 2020-2021, while Americans and Alaska Natives had an increase in suicide-related deaths for both men and women in 2021 .
Suicide-related deaths fell from 10 to 11 in 2021 in the overall cause of death in the United States. (AA)
