It was indicated that the king’s portrait will be on the obverse of the banknotes, that all polymer banknotes that bear the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II will continue to be legal tender and the public will be able to use them normally.
In the statement, it was shared that, in accordance with the guidance of the Royal Family, in order to minimize the environmental and financial impact of this change, new banknotes will be printed instead of only obsolete banknotes and to meet the increase in demand for banknotes, therefore, the banknotes with the portrait of Queen Elizabeth and King Charles will be in circulation at the same time.
Stating that it was an important time for the bank to complete the design of the notes, BoE Chairman Andrew Bailey, whose remarks were included in the statement, said: “King Charles is the second monarch on our notes. “When these notes come into circulation in 2024, they will be used by people,” he said.
