The special jury considering the possible prosecution of former US President Donald Trump in the case of hidden money for a porn star will reconvene on Thursday, reports US news channel MSNBC.
The so-called grand jury to rule on an indictment and possibly an arrest warrant did not meet on Wednesday, contrary to earlier reports.
First time
It will be the first time justice has prosecuted a former American president, if the grand jury decides to do so. Trump may be suspected of administrative fraud more than six years ago, when he was running for president. It wouldn’t be a serious crime. But according to Trump and his party colleagues it is an “unprecedented political persecution” against a former president candidate in the next presidential elections.
The indictment centers on the $130,000 payment to porn star Stephanie “Stormy Daniels” Clifford by Trump’s attorney and business partner Michael Cohen. The payment would have been hidden and the taxes may have been evaded. Trump and his lawyers argue that she was the victim of extortion by Daniels at the time.
