Impressive poster at anti-discrimination events in France

From March 20 to 26, the “Week of Education against Racism and Anti-Semitism” is celebrated in the country.

In this context, the Municipality of Grenoble, located in the Rhône-Alpes region in south-eastern France, prepared numerous posters to draw attention to racism based on race, religion, color and gender.

The posters, which were posted with the headline “Grenoble Takes Responsibility Against Racism,” featured a woman wearing a headscarf, as well as people of Asian and African descent.

The poster with the woman with a headscarf became the agenda of social networks.

One billboard showing a woman wearing a headscarf read, “I’m at least twice as likely to get job interviews as anyone else,” and another billboard showing a black woman read, “I’m 31 percent fewer chances of accessing a property”.

In the statement made on the municipality’s website regarding the campaign, it was assessed that racism and discrimination have a strong effect on people’s daily lives, violating human dignity.

In the statement, it was stressed that the Municipality assumes the responsibility of informing and supporting residents about their rights.

THERE IS NO ANSWER TO THOSE WHO HAVE A MUSLIM NAME

Many studies carried out in France in recent years have revealed that many people in everyday life and in the academic sphere are discriminated against because of their race, religion, language and origin.

In the investigation carried out by researchers from the Agency for Monitoring Discrimination and Equality in Higher Education (ONDES) and the Gustave Eiffel University in 2021 in the country, it was revealed that those who had a Muslim name and surname were exposed to discrimination during the process of Application for graduate programs.

In the study, found to be 12.3 percent less likely to be answered by those with a Muslim name across all their graduate programs, this rate was 33.3 percent in the field of law, 21, 1 percent in the fields of science, technology, health, and language, literature, etc. 7.3 percent were registered in the field of arts, humanities and social sciences.
