Greece accelerated its armament in the Aegean

The sale approval of the ultra-modern and effective amphibious assault vehicles, which Greece applied to the US last year, was claimed to have been obtained from the US Congress.

It is indicated that the sale will be carried out through the US Foreign Military Sales (FMS) program and the contract cost is determined at 268 million dollars and will be carried out under the supervision of the Security Cooperation Organization defense.

In a statement following its decision, Congress described Greece as a key NATO ally that plays an important role for political stability and economic progress in Europe.

Among the vehicles to be purchased are 63 AAVP 7A1 amphibious assault vehicles, 9 Amphibious Assault Command Vehicles (AAVC-741), 4 amphibious assault rescue vehicles (AAVR-7A1), machine guns, MK-19 grenade launchers, Thermal Monitoring, equipment support, Calibration Services and Follow-up Support.

THEY WILL BE DETECTED ON THE ISLANDS OF THE AEGEAN SEA

In a statement, National Defense Minister Nikos Panagiotopoulos mentioned that Athens expects several dozen US armored vehicles to head to the islands, referring to ongoing weapons programs. The AAV-7 amphibious tanks are expected to significantly increase their operational capabilities for landing Greek marines.

WE WILL IMPROVE THE CAPACITY OF GREECE AGAINST THREATS

In a statement on the subject, the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated:

“This approved sale will support US foreign policy and national security objectives and help enhance the security of a NATO ally that is an important partner for political stability and economic progress in Europe. It will enhance Greece’s ability to counter current and future threats and provide an effective capability to protect its maritime interests and infrastructure to support NATO’s strategic position on the southern flank. In addition to NATO operations, Greece also contributes to maritime efforts to combat terrorism and piracy. The proposed sale and support of this equipment will not change the basic military balance in the region. There is no prime contractor associated with this prospectus. Accordingly, there are no known compensation agreements offered in connection with this potential sale. This sale will have no adverse impact on the preparation of the defense of the United States.”
