Double meetings on arms deliveries to Ukraine Related articles

Demand for weapons is high in Ukraine: Zelensky came to Brussels last month with a request for more equipment. Today, therefore, not one, but two international meetings to discuss the purchase of ammunition. According to BNR foreign commentator Bernard Hammelburg, these are “two meetings with the same goal”.

The EU as an arms supplier: it is unique. Member States appear to be increasingly united on joint procurement of arms. Today, agreements are being made to finance a two billion euro purchase of ammunition. Half of this is intended to compensate European countries that have previously funded arms.

The other billion is used to make new weapons. This production is progressing at an increased pace, says Hammelburg. The EU is therefore not alone in addressing this issue. There will be another meeting, which will be organized by a special defense contact group. The Netherlands is also part of this organization.

Poland

In addition to arms purchases, the US news agency AP reports that Poland may supply fighter jets to Ukraine. These are fighter planes that date back to the Soviet era. However, they are still in good shape. “However, Poland only wants to supply the fighter planes if another country participates,” says Hammelburg. That country will most likely be Slovakia. However, this action must first be coordinated with other NATO countries. Joe Biden has previously objected to NATO countries supplying fighter jets. That would be a big step.’
