US police search for missing 12-year-old Mertcan
The disappearance of a 12-year-old Turkish boy living in Farmingville, in New York’s Long Island region, prompted US police to take action.
Mertcan Çakmak left the house where he was sitting with his family on Sunday night, took his bike and disappeared. After his son did not return home, the family went to the Suffolk County Police Department early Monday morning to report his son missing.
Alarmed to find Mertcan, US police sent “Missing Boy” ads with the boy’s photo to nearby towns, as well as Farmingville. US police, who distributed the missing person’s notice to the public through volunteers, have been searching for Mertcan Çakmak for three days.
THE POLICE WANTED HELP FROM THE PUBLIC
The US police eventually asked the people of the region for help in finding Mertcan. Suffolk Police announced that volunteer envoys from the public would be deployed to find the boy.
It was reported that Mertcan, who is a hip-hop enthusiast, was last seen leaving his home on his bike. While it was claimed that Mertcan may be trying to go to the Bronx region, Suffolk County Police Chief Rodney Harrison, who held a press conference on the incident, personally handed out ads featuring Mertcan’s photo, saying: “The most important thing is that he sends this photo everywhere.”
Noting that 65 missing cases, including many children, have been reported so far in the region, Harrison said: “Many people have been missing in Suffolk County for months, even years.”
