The number of wage earners increased by 7.8 percent in January

The Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) announced the statistics of paid employees for January 2023.

Consequently, the total number of paid employees in the industry, construction and service trade sectors increased by 7.8 percent in January 2023 compared to the same month of the previous year. While the number of wage earners was 13,560,968 people in the same month of the previous year, it rose to 14,625,242 people in January 2023.

THE NUMBER OF EMPLOYEES IN THE CONSTRUCTION SECTOR INCREASED 18.1 PERCENT

Looking at the sub-details of paid employees; In January 2023, the number of salaried employees increased by 4.9% in the industrial sector, by 18.1% in the construction sector and by 7.9% in the commercial and service sector.

In the statement made by TURKSTAT, it was indicated that due to the declaration of force majeure in the provinces affected by the earthquake disaster with a fee, estimates were made using statistical methods for the missing observations in the January 2023 calculations. The ratio of the size estimated by these methods in the total was 4.48 percent.
