HDP election statement: The general trend of Kurdish voters is to send Erdogan

In the shadow of the earthquake disaster that struck Turkey, the elections to be held on May 14 are gaining more and more prominence in the world press.

The question of whether the HDP will support the Nation Alliance and the CHP leader, Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, who is the presidential candidate, is also on the agenda of the international press. The London-based Middle East Eye website, which is noted for its news on the Middle East, discussed the electoral preferences of Kurdish voters in an interview with the honorary president and former HDP deputy, Ertuğrul Kürkçü.

Ertugrul Kürkçü

Speaking to Middle East Eye, Kürkçü noted that the government saw the earthquake kill people, saying: “I think that in a democratic country, Erdogan should be tried for the deaths of tens of thousands of people.” Kürkçü said: “The general trend among Kurds is to vote for whoever sends Erdogan.”

WILL THE HDP SUPPORT KILIÇDAROĞLU?

Kürkçü said that Turkey’s military and elites were uncomfortable with the existence of the HDP because it “gives the Kurdish people the hope of self-determination” and argued that it is an illusory belief. Recalling that KılıçdaroÄŸlu will visit the HDP, Kürkçü expressed that “his party hopes to support KılıçdaroÄŸlu.”

Noting that democracy in Turkey depends on the Kurdish issue, Kürkçü said that the most important issues in the elections would be the earthquake and the economic crisis, saying: “Right now, we have neocolonialism for the Kurds and authoritarianism for the rest of the population.”

Explaining the process to Middle East Eye, stating that the HDP faces a case of closure before the May 14 elections, ErtuÄŸrul Kürkçü said, regarding the claim that the HDP is associated with the PKK, “Erdogan wants to put an end to the presence of the HDP in the parliament and the electorate of us, AKP.He hopes that it will return to ‘.

SUPPORT FOR THE HDP FROM THE GLOBAL LEFT

Last week, the Constitutional Court decided to lift the blockade on the HDP bank account, which also includes aid from the Treasury. HDP co-chair Mithat Sancar, on the other hand, stated that the closure case against the party should not be discussed during the electoral process and announced that they would again request to leave the decision on the case until after the elections.

Ultimately, more than 50 political leaders supported the petition organized by Progressive International, which was established to bring together left-wing and progressive organizations from around the world. Among the signatories are the famous American thinker Noam Chomsky, leader of the left-wing movement Indomitable France, which achieved great success in the last elections in France, Jean-Luc Mélenchon, the former leader of the British Labor Party Jeremy Corbyn, the co-chair from the German Left Party, Janine Wissler, and leader of the Greek opposition, famous names such as Yanis Varoufakis also participated.
