China’s new Prime Minister Li Chiang
At the first General Assembly of the 14th term of the Chinese National People’s Congress (NCC) in the capital Beijing, President Xi Jinping nominated Li as prime minister.
Li was elected prime minister by receiving 2,936 delegate votes against, 3 against and 8 abstentions in the CHUK general assembly session this morning, in which he was the only candidate.
After the election, President Xi signed the Presidential Decree on Li’s appointment.
AFTER 10 YEARS, THE STRIKE WAS OUT
Since the premier’s term is limited to two terms in the Chinese Constitution, Li Kiqiang, who served as premier for 10 years in 2013-2018 and 2018-2023, handed over the task to his successor.
Former Premier Li left the seven-member Standing Committee, the party’s top governing body, at the 20th CPC National Congress in October 2022.
The new Premier Li, on the other hand, was elected to the Standing Committee for the first time at the CPC Congress, rising to the second rank in party protocol after General Secretary Xi. In the system where there was a one-party government and the party and state administration were intertwined, Li was expected to be appointed prime minister, which corresponds to the state protocol of his posting in the party.
Born in Rui’en County, Vincou City, Ciciang Province, Li Chiang, 63, studied at Cjiang Agricultural University, Ciciang University and the CPC Central Party School. He has an MBA from Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
Li joined the CCP in 1983 and served in provincial, provincial and county party organizations in Ciciang province. Li, who was general secretary of the Provincial Party Committee when President Xi was Cjiang Party secretary from 2002 to 2007, had a close working relationship with him.
Li was elected to the CPC Standing Committee in 2022.
Li, who was elected prime minister by the National People’s Congress at the suggestion of the president, will continue in his post for the next 5 years.
ELECTIONS MADE TO THE ADMINISTRATION OF AKERİ AND HIGH JURISDICTION
Following the election of the Prime Minister, elections were held in parliament for the Vice-Presidents and members of the Central Military Commission, the Chairman of the National Audit Commission, the President of the Supreme People’s Court and the Chief Prosecutor of the Supreme People’s Procuratorate Court.
General Cang Youshia and General Hi Veydong of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army were appointed vice-chairmen of the Central Military Commission, where Xi was elected president for the third time yesterday with the chairmanship, while General Li Sangfu, General Liu Jinli, Admiral Miao Hua and General Cang Shingmin were appointed as members.
Liu Cinguo was elected Chairman of the National Inspection Commission, Cang Cun Chairman of the Supreme People’s Court, and Ying Yong Chief Prosecutor of the Supreme People’s Procuratorate. (AA)
