2 people died in California due to floods and storms, almost 10 thousand people were evacuated
According to US media reports, the central and northern parts of the state were once again under the influence of heavy rains and storms.
Nancy Ward, Director of the California Office of Emergency Services, shared the information that 2 people died due to bad weather conditions and approximately 10,000 state residents were evacuated.
While the National Weather Service stated that 25 million people are under a “flood watch,” the website poweroutage.us recorded that more than 25,000 homes and workplaces were isolated.
In the last 3 months, the upper parts of the state were covered with snow due to the air wave called “atmospheric river”, while the coast and the lower parts were exposed to heavy rains and floods.
While snow depth in the Sierra Nevada region approached 2.5 meters, some roads were rendered unusable by flooding in the coastal city of Santa Cruz.
The federal aid demanded by California Governor Newsom, who declared an “emergency” the day before in the face of severe weather events, was also approved by President Joe Biden to cover 34 districts in the state.
On the other hand, in regions from South Dakota to the state of Connecticut, a different air wave system also shows its effect in the form of heavy rain and snow.
Poweroutage.us wrote that around 110,000 Wisconsin homes and businesses were without power due to the blizzard.
Weather experts warned that winter conditions in the central and northeastern states and the atmospheric river weather event in California will continue to negatively affect life through the weekend.
At least 18 people were reported to have lost their lives due to heavy rain and snowstorms in high-altitude California, which has been exposed to weather phenomena called an “atmospheric fluvial event” since December.
California Gov. Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency last week to support the fight against the blizzard, which continues to affect most of the state, and appealed to the federal government for help. (AA)
