UK: Russia will use a 1962 tank
In the British Ministry of Defense intelligence report, it was announced that Russia would be taking 1961 Type T-62 Soviet Union-era tanks out of storage and putting them on the battlefield.
“The Russian military is trying to respond by deploying 60-year-old T-62 main battle tanks to make up for heavy armored vehicle losses,” the British Defense Ministry intelligence report said. It is a realistic possibility that even units of the 1st Guards Tank Army, supposedly Russia’s main tank force, will be re-equipped with T-62s to make up for earlier losses. Recently, it has been determined that the Russian BTR-50 armored personnel carriers, which first appeared in the field in 1954, were also deployed in Ukraine for the first time.
“Since the summer of 2022, around 800 T-62s have been taken from depots, and some are equipped with improved aiming systems, likely to increase their effectiveness at night,” the report says. However, these types of legacy vehicles have many vulnerabilities on the modern battlefield.”
