America tests the skills of Ukrainian pilots

07:30 | Two Ukrainian military pilots are currently in the United States for an evaluation to determine how long it will take to prepare them to fly fighter aircraft, including the F-16. This was reported, among other things, by the authority of Congressional sources, the American news channel NBC.

The skills of Ukrainians are tested in simulators at a military base in Arizona. US authorities have already given permission to fly 10 more Ukrainian pilots for evaluation early next month. It is the first time that Ukrainian pilots fly to the United States to test their skills. The visit has two objectives: to improve the pilots’ skills and to estimate the time needed to train them.

NBC sources stress that the initiative is not a training program and that the Ukrainians will not fly any aircraft to the United States.

Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelensky has been asking for F-16s or similar Western fighters for months. His US counterpart Joe Biden announced late last month that the US did not intend to deliver F-16s to Ukraine in the short term at the time.
