Macron tours Africa to renew ties
French President Emmanuel Macron has arrived in Gabon, the first leg of his African tour.
Macron was received at the airport of the capital, Libreville, by the president of Gabon, Ali Bongo Ondimba. Macron is expected to attend the “ONE Forest Summit” on protecting tropical forests, co-hosted by France and Gabon in the capital Libreville.
In statements prior to his visit to Gabon, Angola, the Republic of the Congo and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Macron announced his country’s new African policy. Stating that they want to open a new page with African countries, Macron said that they have started working for the return of cultural property belonging to Africans.
Macron added that France would reduce the number of military bases on the continent. (AA)
