EU humanitarian aid to Syria

The humanitarian aid sent by the European Union (EU) for those affected by the earthquake with its epicenter in Kahramanmaraş that took place on February 6 was delivered to Syria.

In the statement made by the EU Commission, it was stated that two planes carrying humanitarian aid sent to the Syrians after the earthquakes in Kahramanmaraş landed in the capital Damascus yesterday. It was claimed that among the humanitarian aid delivered to Syria, there were tents suitable for winter conditions, materials used for shelter and heaters.

In the statement, which reported that the aid materials will be sourced from EU stocks in Brindisi, Italy and Dubai, and distributed to Syrians in need in regime-controlled Syria and other regions, it was emphasized that the total humanitarian aid that the EU will send to Syria will reach 420 tons.

In addition, the statement indicated that following the request of the Bashar Assad regime to activate the EU Civil Protection Mechanism in Syria, 15 European countries offered assistance, in this context, such as tents, beds, blankets, heaters, materials of hygiene, generators, food, medical supplies for the Syrians. It was noted that proposals were received to meet the needs. It has been reported that aid is being delivered to those in need in northwestern Syria, whether it is under regime control or not.

It was claimed that the EU aid to Syria was coordinated by the EU team in Beirut, and EU humanitarian aid experts are currently working with partner organizations on humanitarian aid in Syria. It has been said that so far 10 million euros have been allocated to aid. (AA)
