The Pope calls for an end to the war in Ukraine
In his speech at the traditional plenary session held in the Vatican on Wednesdays, the Pope drew attention to the anniversary of the war in Ukraine and said: “Dear brothers, the day after tomorrow, February 24, one year will be completed since the occupation of Ukraine. The first anniversary of this brutal and absurd war. It’s a sad anniversary”. Said he.
Expressing that they should support the Ukrainian people who are suffering during this time, the Pope said: “Has everything been done to stop the war? I call on all authorities above nations to make concrete efforts to end the conflict. What is built on the rubble will never be a true victory. he said.
The spiritual leader of the Catholics has called for peace many times before, saying that he and the Vatican are ready to contribute to peace efforts and that he wants to visit both Ukraine and Russia for this purpose.
Pope Francis paid a surprise visit to the Russian Embassy in the Vatican on February 25, a day after the start of the war last year, deviating from protocol conventions. During that visit, the Pope conveyed his concerns about the war to Alexander Avdeev, the Russian ambassador to the Vatican. (AA)
