The American television channel Fox News internally called Donald Trump’s claims of electoral fraud in 2020 “complete nonsense”. That’s what voting machine maker Dominion Voting Systems claims in the lawsuit the company filed against the channel for defamation.
In court documents released yesterday, Dominion writes that he came to that conclusion after reviewing internal communications at Fox News and statements broadcaster Rupert Murdoch and others had to make in January in the case. Murdoch reportedly called Trump’s allegations of workplace tampering “crazy” and “damaging.” Other employees are said to have used words like “preposterous” and “reckless” for the allegations.

Dominion sued Fox News in March 2021 for $1.6 billion. The American-Canadian firm believes Fox News is guilty of defamation by reporting that Dominion’s voting machines were used for voter fraud, when the publishers knew it wasn’t true. Fox News pleads for freedom of the press, saying in its court documents that Trump’s statements were “undeniably newsworthy” and that viewers understood they were simple allegations.
