The United States is taking security measures in response to the Chinese balloon and three unknown objects that have flown into US airspace. They were taken down earlier this month and no apology is being offered for that. That’s what President Joe Biden said at a press conference.
There will be a better overview of unmanned objects in the United States and steps will be taken to improve the detection of such objects. The rules and regulations relating to these objects will also be updated. Foreign Minister Antony Blinken will lead an initiative to ensure global standards.
Biden wants to ensure aviation safety with these steps. According to the president, by shooting down the four objects, the United States clearly indicates that “the violation of American sovereignty is unacceptable”. He also said there doesn’t appear to be an increase in unmanned flying objects in the airspace. According to Biden, they are now probably newsworthy because of the Chinese balloon incident.
Xi Jinping
Biden says he expects to speak with Chinese President Xi Jinping. US says Chinese balloon was for espionage, Beijing insists it was a wind-blown weather balloon. What the other three objects were is still being investigated. According to Biden, these were not spy balloons and likely came from commercial companies or research institutes.
