US planes missed one of the unidentified objects
US Chief of Staff General Milley answers questions at the joint press conference with US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin at the end of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group Meeting in NATO headquarters in Brussels.
Asked if fighter jets missed a shot while shooting at some unidentified flying objects with a Chinese high-altitude balloon that was shot down over the US and Canada in the last 10 days, Milley said: “The first shot against the fourth balloon was inaccurate. I’m talking about the balloon that was dropped over Lake Huron.” She said.
Milley noted that the fighter jets hit the object on the second try. Milley called the object “balloon” later as “object”.
Noting that the second object over Alaska and the third object over Canada were hit in the first shots with the balloon, which is said to belong to China and was dropped, Milley said the first missile to miss the fourth object fell in Lake Huron and did not cause any damage.
Milley said they are trying to reach the falling debris of the second, third and fourth objects struck, which can take time due to geographic conditions and harsh weather conditions.
BALLOON AND OTHER OBJECTS LEFT BY THE US
The US military hit a Chinese high-altitude balloon it detected over Montana off the coast of South Carolina on February 4. The Pentagon also dropped an unidentified object over Alaska on February 9.
On February 11, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that they had dropped an object over the Yukon region of Canada in cooperation with the United States. The US military announced on February 12 that it had shot down an unidentified object flying over Lake Huron on the country’s border with Canada.
Thus, the US military has shot down 4 aerial elements, one of which is a Chinese high-altitude balloon, and 3 unidentified objects, in the last 10 days. (AA)
