The Netherlands never asked Germany the question, according to a spokeswoman. “We are not aware that the Netherlands has made an official application, let alone blocked it.” Ollongren informed the House yesterday in the debate that the 18 Leopard 2 tanks, which the Netherlands is leasing from Germany, will not be sent to Ukraine according to the Germans’ wishes.

According to the Germans, however, the resistance came from the Dutch army. Earlier there was talk of Prime Minister Mark Rutte’s suggestion to first buy Leopard 2 tanks from Germany itself, and then deliver them to Ukraine, but the Dutch military would not wait for that.
