Zelenskiy called on the Georgian government to release Saakashvili, in a tweet he shared about the jailed Saakashvili’s state of health.
Reminding that Saakashvili is a citizen of Ukraine, Zelenskiy claimed that his human rights were violated against him, saying: “Currently, a citizen of Ukraine, former president of Georgia. Mikhail Saakashvili is slowly being killed. The fact that we still have to fight against such an attempted public execution of a person in Europe in the 21st century is a shame. Given the threat to his life, I urge the Georgian authorities to remember their obligations under European standards for the protection of human rights, stop the abuse and release Michael. Ukraine offered solutions. “I call on the world to save Michael’s life and prevent his execution.” (AA)
