Mitsotakis blamed Turkey in Japan

The Greek Prime Minister, Kiriakos Mitsotakis, made statements in Japan, where he went for official contacts…

Speaking to Japanese media in the capital Tokyo, Mitsotakis blamed Turkey. Noting that the first year of the Russia-Ukraine war is coming to an end, Mitsotakis said NATO members must act together.

Mitsotakis said: “Turkey’s position within NATO disturbs many NATO member countries and this has nothing to do with Turkey-Greece relations.” Criticizing the fact that Turkey has not participated in the sanctions imposed on Moscow and the fact that Sweden and Finland have not yet ratified their NATO membership, Mitsotakis said: “Turkey takes advantage of having a special economic relationship with Russia. If you are in an alliance and it is also an alliance of values, you cannot be left out”.

The Greek prime minister said: “I am not worried about a possible conflict with Turkey, but Turkish foreign policy has taken an increasingly aggressive stance over the years. “I think this situation seems very inappropriate after a clear violation of international law in Ukraine,” he said.

Miçotakis continued his words by saying: “We see that many of the statements made today are directed at the pre-election period, but we are concerned that such statements will negatively affect Turkish public opinion.”
