Nearly 200 immigrant children go missing in the UK
Around 200 children seeking asylum in the UK have reportedly disappeared after being placed in government-run shelters, with most of them later tracked down and found.
Home Office official Simon Murray said in a statement in the House of Lords that some 200 children seeking asylum had gone missing. Many of the children who went missing after being placed in government-run shelters were later tracked down and found, Murray said.
Noting that there was a girl and at least 13 people under the age of 16 among the children in question, and that 88 percent of the children were Albanian citizens, Murray said it would be wrong to “generalize about missing children.” (AA)
