US President Joe Biden’s aides found more classified documents, this time at his home in the state of Delaware. The White House confirmed this after the American media had already reported on the find on Wednesday.
Already on Monday it was announced that secret documents belonging to Biden had been found in his private office in a think tank in Washington last November. The second batch of classified documents also dates from his time as vice president, according to the White House.
The new classified material was found “among personal and political documents,” Biden’s attorney Richard Sauber said in the White House statement. “All but one of these documents were found in storage in the garage of the president’s residence in Wilmington. A one-page document was discovered among the materials stored in an adjoining room.’
Justice is investigating
Biden’s aides immediately alerted the Justice Department, which opened an investigation into the matter and ordered it to receive the documents. Another home of Biden’s – in Rehoboth Beach, also in Delaware – was also searched but no confidential documents were found there.
The discovery of the documents is a sensitive subject in the United States. Biden’s predecessor, Donald Trump, is facing legal troubles because he took home more than 300 classified documents after his resignation. Even Biden himself has been critical of this. The difference here, however, is that Donald Trump refused to hand over the documents, which prompted an FBI raid.
