The German government wants jailed Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny to receive medical attention “immediately”. Navalni, 46, is in a punishment cell and said on Wednesday he had a fever and that he will not receive medical attention.
Through years of social media campaigning against corruption and the abuse of power by political and business elites, Navalni has become a key opposition leader in the Kremlin. According to Germany, he was convicted in a political trial.
Ukraine
Despite his isolated position in a maximum security prison, Navalni speaks out often. At the time, he immediately strongly condemned the Russian invasion of Ukraine on February 24th.
Among other things, he is serving a nine-year prison sentence for misappropriating donations to his organizations that have been virtually dismantled. Navalni allegedly used the money for private spending and a campaign to become president. He was arrested in January 2021 at the Moscow airport.

He then returned from Berlin, where he had been treated for poisoning. He was conditionally released after a conviction for corruption and violated his terms with his stay abroad, according to the judiciary.
