Flu wave in Austria swept the country
In the statement from the Agency for Health and Food Safety (AGES), it was indicated that influenza and similar diseases were effective throughout Austria, with the daily number of cases reaching the highest levels in the country’s history.
The statement indicated that between December 5 and 12, 4,338 out of every 100,000 people contracted the flu and similar respiratory illnesses, and 394,000 new cases were registered in the country with a population of approximately 9 million.
In the statement, which mentions that the highest level was detected in 2017 before the Covid-19 epidemic, it was indicated that the number of cases almost doubled in 2022.
In the statement, it was noted that the capital city Vienna is one of the places where the flu wave is most effective in the country, and the increase in the number of cases will continue according to estimates.
The statement indicated that due to the rapid spread of the disease among children, there was an excessive density, especially in pediatric hospitals, for which reason patients were referred to family doctors or to different units. (AA)
