Russia: We are working for Erdogan and Assad to meet
While Turkey’s preparations for a military operation in northern Syria have been on the agenda recently, a notable statement has been made regarding Ankara-Damascus relations.
Russia’s special envoy to Syria Alexander Lavrentyev made the statement to Arab media. Speaking to the Dubai-based Al Arabiya television channel, Lavrentyev announced that Moscow is working to arrange a meeting between President Erdogan and Syrian President Bashar Assad.
Lavrentyev said: “We believe that such a meeting is generally positive and beneficial, and we continue to work on this issue.”
Making a statement in a similar vein on November 23, Lavrentyev said that there is always the possibility of a meeting between Erdogan and Assad.
