According to the statement of the Presidential Spokesperson; Presidential spokesman İbrahim Kalın had a telephone conversation with UK national security adviser Tim Barrow. During the meeting, bilateral political and economic relations, cooperation in the defense industry, the latest events in the war in Ukraine and Syria and the fight against terrorism were discussed.

It was stated that the prolongation of the war in Ukraine has deepened the humanitarian crisis and increased energy, food and economic fragility worldwide. It was emphasized that supporting Turkey’s diplomatic initiatives is of great importance in ending the war and returning to the negotiating table. While he welcomed the extension of the grain agreement, it was stated that grain shipments should continue more efficiently.

ACTION MESSAGE

It was also claimed that the operations carried out in Syria after the terrorist attack in Istanbul were directed against the PKK/PYD/YPG terrorist organizations, which pose a threat to Turkey’s national security. In this context, it was underlined that Turkey has the right to self-defense in accordance with article 51 of the United Nations Convention.

It was agreed to develop cooperation between the two countries in the field of defense industry, including the TFX domestic war plane project, and to execute concrete projects.
