Death toll rises in landslide on Italian island of Ischia

In news from the Italian agency ANSA, it was reported that the bodies of 3 more of the 4 missing people were found during search and rescue operations carried out in the town of Casamicciola, where the landslide occurred on the island. Thus, the number of people who lost their lives since Saturday’s disaster rose to 11. The search for a missing person continues.

The governor of Naples, Claudio Palomba, to whom the island is administratively linked, said that if there is a “yellow” or “orange” warning about weather conditions, they will have to evacuate at least a thousand people from Ischia until the level of alarm.

Apart from the loss of life as a result of the landslide that occurred after heavy rains in Ischia on November 26, material damage was caused by the fact that some houses were buried underground and many cars were swept into the sea. The government had earmarked 2 million euros for the disaster.

The natural disaster that caused the loss of life once again put the problem of illegal construction on the island on the agenda. (AA)
