The final declaration was announced after the last stakeholder meeting held in the framework of the preparations for the Second Century Economic Congress, to be held in Izmir in February 2023 under the motto “We are building the Turkey of the future” by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality. COMMON DECISIONS MADE

President Soyer thanked the participants and said: “I hope that these decisions shed light on the future of Turkey. We held a productive meeting where the problems that will arise in Turkey’s next century were discussed and solutions were sought with a common mind.

The first draft of the text of the Declaration of the Meeting of Industrialists, Merchants and Artisans of the Congress of Economy of the Second Century was made up as follows:

“We, as representatives of non-governmental organizations and professional organizations operating in different regions of Turkey, gathered in Izmir for the Industrialists, Traders and Craftsmen Meeting of the Second Century Economic Congress.

In our era, where digitization is accelerating, many professions are disappearing, new professions are being born, and the world is facing the climate crisis, just after the pandemic, industrial and commercial life is being restructured. Every new piece of information that filters through life redefines what we know to be true.

At the preparatory meeting for the Second Century Economic Congress, we made decisions outlining our desire for a Turkey where its prestige in the international arena has grown, in harmony with nature, open to change, where prosperity grows and is shared. fairly, based on common mind and consensus.

These decisions have been made in accordance with the suggestions of the industry, merchants and merchant organizations that participated in the preliminary meetings held on August 23, 2022 and October 5, 2022.

The decisions made will be presented in the agenda of the Second Century Economic Congress, which will be held in Izmir in February 2023, after the opinions of the four expert desks of the congress and other interested parties are taken.

25 ANNOUNCED PRINCIPLES
1. Democracy is the basic element that ensures not only the development of commerce and industry, but also the equitable distribution of wealth.

2. The establishment of gender equality, which rejects all types of discrimination, is essential for the healthy development of the economy. In building the Turkey of the future, all obstacles will be removed for women to assume the same initiative and responsibility, starting from the decision-making mechanisms.

3. The social and economic order of the Turkey of the future will be built on the understanding of structural change in the world. This understanding is possible with an understanding of the ecological, political, sociological, cultural, technological, and demographic developments that affect the entire world.
4. An economic model oriented towards growth in industry and commerce cannot be accepted. We must build a sustainable economic model. The economic policy of the future Turkey is a movement of cultural renewal that improves all the moral and economic values ​​of the society.

5. The economy of the future cannot be expected to develop spontaneously, with daily and populist political decisions. A long-term and systematic economic policy will be built to improve Turkey’s second century industrial and commercial conditions. The results of all actions taken with a strong understanding will be measured and their effects monitored regularly.

6. The culture of economic planning must be holistic, inclusive and strategic in nature. The industrial and commercial policy of the future will be based on four main interrelated reforms: social, political, economic and ecological.

7. The footprint left by the human species on earth and in the atmosphere has exceeded the self-renewal threshold of the ecosystem of which we are a part. The climate crisis is one of its consequences. These non-reciprocal conditions between the ecological cycles of nature and the economic order of the human species threaten the future of all living beings, including humans themselves. The Turkey of the future will be built on a new economic approach that accepts the inseparable relationship between ecology and economy, and trade and industrial policies will be developed in this direction.

8. Throughout the world, unbalanced growth has been understood to be unsustainable locally and globally, and this understanding of the economy has come to an end. Business and industry must evolve towards a sensible understanding based on the happiness of employees, economic actors, stakeholders, society and ultimately nature, rather than the runaway capital model.

9. The establishment of a new social consensus is essential for the stable development of industry and commerce. This consensus will be formed by accepting cultural differences and innovation as one of the basic inputs of the economy.

10. Turkey’s economy of the future will have a spirit that not only consumes but also produces and uses technology.

11. The environment required by “economic democracy” will be provided for the development of institutional, individual and cooperative entrepreneurship.

12. Regardless of scale, Turkey’s industrialists, merchants, artisans and entrepreneurs are valuable players in the country’s economy. Protection measures for merchants, artisans and SMEs will be reinforced.

13. The public will have a role that determines the basic strategy, establishes the rules, supervises, facilitates and develops the investment environment and becomes an actor when necessary, thus facilitating the function of giving constructive direction to the sectors. These functions of the citizenry will be carried out with the principles of full transparency, accountability and participation.

14. The imposition of morality and the norms of technology on human creativity is unacceptable. A Technological Ethics Committee will be established in order to eliminate the negative effects of technology on people.

15. The development of intellectual capital is essential for the transformation of technology. Access to publicly available information will be considered a fundamental human right. All kinds of resources will be increased for the development of intellectual human capital, basic sciences and research studies.

16. Industrial and commercial investments that eliminate the differences in development between regions will be encouraged. Regional development policies will be developed that allow sectoral grouping according to the geographical character and economic potential of the regions.

17. It is essential to meet the energy needs of the sectors from sources compatible with nature that do not generate carbon emissions. Turkey’s industrial and commercial world will serve the goal of a carbon neutral world.

18. Sectoral development plans will be established to ensure comparative advantage, universal competitiveness, and the production of high added value in sectors of strategic importance to the country, which are suitable for international technological development.

19.Intersectoral integration is essential for economic development. The growing synergy between economic dynamics and local, national and global sectors will be fostered, and intersectoral harmonization plans will be developed.

20. In the Turkey of the future, the linear economy approach will be abandoned and the sectoral and industrial symbiosis that will develop from circular economy households to macro-production areas will be developed at all scales. Therefore, supply chains for raw materials will become stronger and shorter.

For our country to realize a new understanding of development in the Turkey of the future, in addition to technical knowledge prioritizing appropriate competencies and skills in the 21st century, problem solving, digital skills, foreign language, skills sociocultural, which transform human biological competence into social value, encourage creativity and entrepreneurship – An educational approach based on experiential learning will be adopted, which provides emotional skills.

22. The production of thought and knowledge is an economic value. In the Turkey of the future, sectors based on human capital as well as sectors based on physical capital will be supported. For this, measures will be taken to strengthen the harmony between imagination and profession, innovative and value-added production will be encouraged, entrepreneurship will be paved and the talent management and mastery system will be prioritized.

23. Change is one of the basic inevitable dynamics of the economy. The Turkey of the future will be built as a universal incubator center in constant learning for the development of new professional fields.

24. The economy and business world of the future cannot be built without providing equal opportunities for young people in education, employment and in all areas of life. With the awareness that young people are the best representatives of the future, it will support itself to create visionary and influential generations that closely follow innovations, learn throughout their lives, produce and develop technology.

25. The chains that provide the production of local and regional intermediate products will be strengthened in the supply of inputs in the Turkish industry. In this direction, innovation, creativity and design capacity in trade and industry will be developed.
