One third of women recruited in Israel are sexually harassed

The State of Israel Ombudsman has released its 2021 report on allegations of sexual harassment against women serving in the Israeli military.

Noting that 33 percent of female soldiers doing their mandatory military service in the Israeli army reported being sexually harassed at least once or more, 70 percent of them were reported to have complained about this problem.

In the report, it was noted that 22 percent of women working in the Israeli police, 27 percent of those working in the border police and 38 percent of those serving in Israeli prisons were sexually harassed while They were doing their mandatory military service.

The report noted that 70 percent of those who were harassed while doing their mandatory military service in prison said the harassment was done by employees or their commanders.

It was noted that 44 per cent of women who complained of being sexually harassed stated that their complaints “were not handled properly”, while 26 per cent said that they were “not considered at all”.

It was emphasized that the report “reveals an alarming picture of the protection of female soldiers and that many of them are experiencing a lack of security.” (AA)
