Washington Post: US Secretly Pressures Zelensky
Sources who spoke to the Washington Post, one of the respected newspapers in the US, said US officials gave advice to Ukraine on some issues behind closed doors.
The sources, who spoke to the newspaper and did not reveal their names, said the Washington administration supported the Ukrainian authorities by signaling that they were open to negotiations with Russia. The same sources also said that the support of other countries may decrease if the Kyiv administration does not make a statement and show that it is open to negotiations.
It was also stated that the US does not have the goal of forcing Ukraine to come to the negotiating table, and that the goal here is for the Kyiv administration to continue to receive support from other countries.
U.S. and Ukrainian officials also said Ukrainian President Zelensky’s opposition to meeting Putin has raised concerns in Europe, Africa and South America. Zelenskiy announced that he would sit at the negotiating table with Russia after Putin steps down from him. “The situation in Ukraine has tired some of our allies,” a US official told the Washington Post.
On the other hand, while a US official said support for kyiv would continue, Zelenskiy did not respond to these accusations.
