Lebanon: We have agreed with the Greek Cypriot administration
The presidential statement in this regard was published in the official Lebanese agency NNA.
In the statement, it is stated that Lebanese President Michel Aoun had a telephone conversation with the Deputy Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament, İlyas Ebu Saab, who met with the Greek Cypriot delegation in Beirut.
It was noted that Abu Saab told Avn that negotiations on the maritime border, which began this morning at Baabda Palace, have been completed, and that the Greek Cypriot delegation also met with Lebanese Transport Minister Ali Hamiye in the presence of the oil administration. and military officers affiliated with the Ministry of Energy.
The Vice President of the Assembly, Abu Saab, stated that “as a result of the talks, a formula has been reached in accordance with the legal procedures regarding the change of maritime borders and it has been agreed to implement it.”
Stating that the formula covers the common border line in the northern border area between the Greek Cypriot Administration and Lebanon, Ebu Saab stated that the joining points on the border line will be determined after the agreement with Syria.
President Avn also received today at the Baabda Palace the delegation headed by the diplomat Tasos Tzionis from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Greek Cypriot Administration.
Lebanon has borders with 3 countries by sea. These countries are Israel in the south, Syria in the north, and the Greek Cypriot administration in the west.
Following the announcement that there are rich oil and gas resources in the Eastern Mediterranean, Lebanon took steps to negotiate directly or indirectly with the three countries in question.
Israel and Lebanon yesterday signed the agreement on the layout of the maritime border as a result of long-term indirect negotiations. (AA)
