Mohamed Salah was attacked during the Sierra Leone match
Security had to activate a red alert after Mohamed Salah became the target of many fans during Egypt’s victory over Sierra Leone.
Trabzonspor winger Trezeguet scored twice for the African team in Liberia, while Salah provided an assist as Egypt continued its perfect start to the 2025 World Cup qualifiers.
The match ended on a bittersweet note as the home team finished the match with nine men and Abdul Jarju Kabia and Derby County star Tyrese Fornah were sent off.
While Fornah was sent off in the first half, Kabia received a red card in second-half extra time, causing disappointment both in the stands and on the field.
THE FANS ENTERED THE FIELD
In the images spread on social networks, it is striking that the field invaders jumped over the barriers and headed towards Salah, and the Liverpool forward’s teammates also gathered around Salah.
Several people jumped onto the field from the stands and ran towards Salah, and the hooligans attacked Salah. While Salah’s teammate, Mohamed Abdelmonem, was seen protecting his teammate, the referees had difficulty intervening.
SALAH LEFT THE FIELD WITH GUARDS
Another video showed Salah being escorted off the field by several military guards, with one member of the public making a concerted effort to take a photo with the striker.
Although it is unclear why Salah was specifically targeted in this incident, many members of the African population view him as an icon, especially in Egypt.
