Turkey’s leadership chances increased after Wales’ draw
In the Euro 2024 qualifiers, Armenia and Wales faced each other in Group D, which also included Turkey. After the match ended in a 1–1 draw, Wales had no chance of leading the group and their chances of being in the top two places became difficult.
While the home team, Armenia, took a 1-0 lead with Zelaryan’s goal in the 5th minute, Wales equalized with Tiknizyan’s goals in the 45th minute.
With this result, Wales, with 11 points, has no chance of finishing the group as leaders, ahead of Turkey, which has 16 points in Group D. Wales will host Turkey in the last group match.
If Croatia, which has 10 points entering the final two group games, cannot beat Latvia tonight, Turkey will be guaranteed the lead before playing its final away game against Wales. Otherwise, if Türkiye does not lose against Wales away from home, the lead will come in the last match.
Wales will face Türkiye at home on Tuesday 21 November. Armenia will also host Croatia in its field.
LAST SCORE OF THE GROUP
- 1- Türkiye 16 Points
- 2- Wales 11 Points
- 3- Croatia 10 Points (1 game left)
- 4- Armenia 8 Points
- 5- Latvia 3 Points
