Erling Haaland alert: injury crisis ahead of Liverpool game
Erling Haaland is racing against time to be ready for Manchester City’s match against Liverpool next weekend following the injury he suffered while playing for the national team.
The striker sprained his ankle after coming on as a substitute in the 2-0 win against the Faroe Islands on Thursday, but continued playing until the end.
The injury is his second ankle problem this month, after he was substituted at half-time of the 6-1 win over Bournemouth on November 4, prompting concerns he will not be able to play in the important match against Liverpool. .
City were relieved when the Norwegian team’s doctor, Ola Sand, explained that the problem was not serious but that he was “in a lot of pain and his functions were limited” and that he would not be able to play at Hampden Park.
Norway’s trip to Glasgow for its final Euro 2024 qualifier is a formality as it can no longer catch Scotland or Spain in the top two spots.
“THERE IS A SLIGHT SPRAIN”
After Thursday’s game, Sand revealed that recent injuries have left the 23-year-old’s ankle “vulnerable” to further deterioration:
“The same thing happened against Bournemouth a week and a half ago. He has a slight sprain in his ankle, an area in which he is a little vulnerable. It hurts a lot right away and then goes away very quickly. “Then we’ll see what it’s like tomorrow.”
AT THE HIGHEST IN THE KINGS OF SCORE
Haaland has been in great form this season and leads the Premier League’s top scorers list with 13 goals in 12 games.
City will host Jurgen Klopp’s team at the Etihad on Saturday lunchtime.
Pep Guardiola is not only sweating over his star striker’s availability for the match, as Ederson, Nathan Ake, Mateo Kovacic and Matheus Nunes have withdrawn from the national team draft and face a race against time to get on the field.
