Celtic fans do not give up their support for Palestine
Hundreds of Celtic fans, who sat in the stands to support their team at Heart’s match yesterday in the Scottish League, which Celtic won 4-1, displayed the Palestinian flag.
Celtic fans, who continue to support Palestine despite criticism from the club’s management, plan to maintain this attitude in the UEFA Champions League match against Atlético de Madrid, which will be played at their stadium on Wednesday.
In response to the club’s claim that “Celtic is a football club, not a political organisation”, the Celtic fans’ association stated that “they have the right to express their political opinions in the stands”.
“Our belief that football fans and ordinary citizens have the right to express their political opinions in the stands, as in other segments of society, remains unwavering,” the fans group said in a statement. “We will not allow ourselves to be dictated by an elitist board that belittles the history and traditions of the Celtic Club.”
In previous years, Celtic fans had supported Palestine with flags and various banners in the stands. (AA)
