Djokovic trailed 2-0 and beat Djere to reach the fourth round of the US Open
In the last Grand Slam tennis tournament of the season, the US Open, second-seeded Serbian Novak Djokovic won the match 3-2, trailing 2-0, and made his mark in the fourth round.
The third round matches took place in the afternoon session of the fifth day of the tournament held in New York City.
Aiming for his 24th career Grand Slam title, Djokovic faced 32nd seed Laslo Djere in the third round.
Djokovic, who fell behind after losing the first two sets 6-4, won the match 3-2 at 6-1, 6-1, 6-3 sets in the 3 hours and 45 minutes of fighting. Djokovic faced Croatian Borna Gojo in the fourth round.
Ninth seed American Taylor Fritz defeated Czech Jakub Mensik 3-0, tenth seed American Frances Tiafoe defeated Frenchman Adrian Mannarino 3-1 to reach the fourth round.
RYBAKINA ELIMINATED, GAUFF IN ROUND FOUR
In women’s singles, the fourth seed Elena Rybakina lost 2-1 to the Romanian Sorana Cirstea, number 30, 3-6, 7-6 and 4-6 and said goodbye to the tournament in the third round.
The American Coco Gauff (6) defeated the Belgian Elise Mertens (32) 3-6, 6-3 and 6-0 in the third round match 2-1. (AA)
