Pegula and Sinner are champions at the Canadian Open Masters Tennis Tournament
Jessica Pegula in women and Jannik Sinner in men won the Canadian Masters Open Tennis Tournament.
In the women’s singles final of the hard court tournament in Montreal, world number 3 Pegula faced off against world number 18 Liudmila Samsonova.
Pegula, who reached the final by knocking out top-ranked Iga Swiatek, had no trouble against Samsonova, who reached the final hours after winning the rain-postponed semifinal match.
By winning 2-0 (6-1, 6-0) after 49 minutes from the court, American Pegula became the first singles title at the Canadian Open, the 2nd in the WTA 1000 tournaments and the 3rd in his carrer.
FIRST TIME SINNER
In the men’s singles final in Toronto, 8th ranked Jannik Sinner and 18th ranked Alex de Minaur faced each other.
Italian racket Sinner defeated his Australian opponent 2-0 (6-4, 6-1) after 1.5 hours, clinching his first singles title at the Masters tournaments and the eighth singles title of his career. (AA)
