Ministry of Commerce Statement on Market Distorting Import Measures
The Ministry of Commerce indicated that 9 safeguards are in place to protect domestic producers against market-distorting, unfair and dumped imports, and that these measures had an impact on imports of approximately $800 million last year.
In the written statement made by the Ministry, it was noted that the policies aimed at increasing production and internal employment continue to be implemented effectively.
The statement states that the protection of domestic producers against unfair competition with dumping of imports or diversion of origin is one of the most important pillars of policies aimed at production. Turkey is among the countries that protect their domestic producers against unfair practices and threats from imports, with their trade policy defense tools. 88 percent of our imports consist of raw materials and investment goods.
In the statement, it was indicated that in the framework of anti-dumping measures, a total of 204 measures have been taken since 1995 in accordance with the rules of the World Trade Organization (WTO), and that 126 anti-dumping and anti-subsidy measures are currently in process. force in Turkey.
‘ECONOMIC GROWTH IS A PRIORITY’
Noting that 4 billion dollars of imports in 2022 are subject to measures, the following information was shared:
“Our investigations continue in 12 product groups originating from 11 countries at the moment. There are currently 9 safeguards in force, and these measures have had an impact on imports of approximately $800 million in 2022. By protecting our national producers, priority is given to increasing employment and production in our country.
On the other hand, as the Ministry of Commerce, the rights of our country and of our exporters are effectively defended before the corresponding authorities of the country and on international platforms, ensuring free access to export markets in investigations of instruments of defense of commercial policy carried out by other countries against products originating in our country.
In addition to our export figures, one of the main indicators of growth, in terms of exports, imports, production and employment, with our production-based import application, priority is given to the growth and development of the economy and social welfare. from the country.
