Luiz Felipe Scolari is coach again: Atlético Mineiro announces new coach

Luiz Felipe Scolari has been appointed as coach of the Brazilian team Atlético Mineiro.

Club Atlético Mineiro announced that Brazilian coach Scolari, 74, has signed a contract until December 2024 for the coaching position left vacant by Argentine Eduardo Coudet.

Despite announcing his retirement in November 2022, Scolari decided to continue his career and coached many teams in his 41-year coaching career. Scolari, who is the leader of Brazil, Portugal and Kuwait in the national teams, has worked for Juventude, Gremio, Goiás, Coritiba, Criciuma, Palmeiras, Cruzeiro and most recently for Athletico Paranaense in his country. The experienced coach has also served for England’s Chelsea, Uzbekistan’s Bunyodkor, China’s Guangzhou Evergrande, Japan’s Jubilo Iwata, Saudi Arabia’s Al-Ahli and Al-Shabab.

Scolari, who won league championships in China, Uzbekistan and Brazil and spent most of his career at home, won the Copa Libertadores in 1995 with Gremio and in 1999 with Palmeiras.

Scolari led the Brazilian team to the championship at the 2002 FIFA World Cup and helped Portugal reach the final at the 2004 European Soccer Championship. (BRITISH AUTOMOBILE CLUB)
