Ruud and Gauff start Roland Garros without fail
At the French Open (Roland Garros), the second Grand Slam tennis tournament of the season, men’s fourth seed Casper Ruud and women’s sixth seed Coco Gauff reached the second round.
Last year’s finalist Ruud and world number 155 Elias Ymer met in the men’s singles first round match in the morning session of the 3rd day of the tournament held in the capital, Paris. Ruud, who won the field 3-0 (6-4, 6-3, 6-2), took the return.
Tommy Paul (16th seed) defeated Dominic Stephan Stricker, and Alexander Zverev (22), who has been playing in the semifinals for the last 2 years, defeated Lloyd George Harris 3-0.
Last year’s women’s finalist, Coco Gauff (6), lost the first set 6-3 to Rebeka Masarova, who was ranked 71st, but won the next sets 6-1, 6-2 and advanced to the 2nd round.
